Elev8 Project Director Bios

LISC's Elev8 project is led by project directors at each of the five school sites plus the overall Elev8 Project Manager.

The Resurrection Project's Luis Bermudez directs Elev8 implementation at Orozco Academy in Pilsen. Prior to joining TRP, Luis managed After School Matters programs in four high schools and four community-based organizations in Little Village. Luis also created and funded GED on Wheels, a program where teen dropouts in Little Village could earn a stipend while achieving their General Educational Development (GED) certificate. The Southwest Organizing Project’s Shoshanah Yehudah directs Elev8 implementation at Marquette Elementary in Chicago Lawn. She can be reached at 773-471-8208, syehudah.swop@sbcglobal.net.

Greater Auburn-Gresham Development Corporation’s Tenisha Jones oversees Elev8 implementation at Perspectives Middle Academy. She was formerly Dean of Students and Director of Student Services at the Youth Connection Charter School, which specializes in bringing dropouts back into the academic fold and making sure students at risk of failure stay in school. She excelled in boosting attendance and resolving discipline issues. Jones is also a certified child life therapist, a skill she has employed at Children’s Memorial Hospital and other medical centers to provide therapeutic activities for chronically ill children. Maria Trejo, of the Logan Square Neighborhood Association, is the Elev8 Director at Ames Middle School. A graduate of the Grow Your Own Program at Northeastern Illinois University with a degree in bicultural and bilingual education, Maria has participated in several leadership roles at LSNA, including as the Afterschool Program Director, where she engaged middle school students, parents and educators to address educational, developmental, and social needs. Quad Communities Development Corporation’s Scott Witherspoon directs Elev8 implementation at Reavis Elementary in Bronzeville. Prior to joining QCDC, Scott was the CEO of Healing, Empowering, & Learning Professionals, a consulting company that provides counseling, case management and assessment services to youth and adults at social service agencies and schools.
