First CWF Video Feature - Safer Foundation

Published: April 20, 2015

Safer Foundation is one of the nation’s largest nonprofit service providers focused exclusively on people with criminal records. Established in 2011, the organization’s Centers for Working Families (CWF) works to help clients from across the Chicago region achieve long-term economic stability.

Like all members of the LISC Chicago network of CWFs (sometimes referred to as Financial Opportunity Centers (FOCs), the Safer Foundation CWF roots its services in three key areas: job placement, financial coaching and income support screening.

“It’s incredible to see people change their lives,” says Financial Coach Karen DeGrasse in the following video. “I’ve seen clients sit in my chair that have cried because of the opportunities they now have to make a difference, to build their credit score, to provide for their families, to make a financial change in their lives.”

The CWF also offers a wide range of financial products and services aimed at empowering ex-offenders to achieve sustainable economic gains. Its efforts are especially important given the financial and social hurdles that often arise as the result of a criminal conviction.

Learn more about the Safer Foundation CWF in this first installment of a newly launched LISC Chicago video series. Check back with every Tuesday between now and July 14 to learn more about another LISC-supported CWF and the work they do to create positive economic outcomes for local families.
