CWF Video Feature – Central States SER

Published: May 12, 2015

Facing foreclosure without any savings to fall back on, Benita Moreno needed help. Despite having built up an impressive resume of management positions over the course of her career, she was unable to find work in a challenging economy and feared for her ability to put food on the table.

But like thousands of Chicagoans, Benita found her saving grace at the Center for Working Families (CWF) operated by Central States SER. A member of the LISC Chicago network of CWFs – also known as Financial Opportunity Centers (FOCs) – the organization provides financial coaching, employment services and benefits screening to individuals in need of regaining their economic footing. Like many of its peer organizations, the Central States SER CWF strives to empower Chicagoans to obtain long-term financial stability. Of her experience at the CWF, Benita says simply, “I’m so grateful.”

Through a comprehensive coaching process, Benita managed to find employment, save her home from foreclosure and regain control of her financial situation.

Learn more about her story and Central States SER in this week’s installment of the LISC Chicago CWF/FOC video series. Check back with every Tuesday between now and July 14 to learn more about another CWF/FOC in the LISC Chicago network.
