CWF/FOC Video Feature - Instituto Del Progreso Latino

Published: May 26, 2015

Like so many Chicagoans, Jose Valencia would like to own a home. Until recently, however, that desire seemed more like a dream than an actual possibility.

That changed when he decided to visit the Financial Opportunity Center (FOCs)/Center for Working Families (CWFs) at the Instituto Del Progreso Latino.

There he worked alongside Financial Coach Rosalba Ramirez to analyze his credit report, broaden his job search and develop a plan for economic gains over the long run. Now Jose is once again in control of his financial situation. His sense of hope has returned.

A member of the LISC Chicago network of FOCs/CWFs, the Instituto’s FOC serves to provide Latino immigrants with the resources they need to become contributing, functional members of American society while simultaneously preserving their unique cultural identities.

Operating primarily in Pilsen, Little Village and Back of the Yards, the organization offers bundled financial services to Chicagoans in need. In doing so, they strive to treat their clients as individuals with unique needs, circumstances and assets.

Learn more about Jose’s story and the Instituto Del Progreso Latino’s FOC in this week’s installment of the LISC Chicago FOC/CWF video series. Check back with every Tuesday between now and July 14 to learn more about another FOC/CWF in the LISC Chicago network.
