FOC Video Feature - St. Sabina Employment Resource Center
Published: July 14, 2015
Inside the technology room at the St. Sabina Employment Resource Center, a wall of photographs commemorates the success stories of neighbors from the surrounding Auburn Gresham community.
While unique in their circumstances, their journeys share one thing in common: An ongoing relationship with the staff of St. Sabina and the helping hand of professionals who set them on the road to long-term economic stability.A member of the LISC Chicago network of Financial Opportunity Centers (FOCs), the St. Sabina Employment Resource Center offers job placement assistance, benefits screening and personalized financial coaching. Its relationship with St. Sabina Church – a powerful force for social justice on both the city and regional scales – helps supplement the Center’s ability to work as an effective force for structural change within the neighborhood.
“I have seen this community completely transformed (because of this organization),” says Financial Counselor Janice Murdock in the following video.
Like its peer organizations across the city, the St. Sabina FOC strives to provide Chicagoans with the support and connection to the resources they need to truly regain their financial footing. Realizing that economic wellbeing is often dependent upon more than employment, staffers work to ensure people are prepared for the hard work of developing and following individualized, comprehensive plans.
Learn more about the organization in final installment of the LISC Chicago FOC video series.
