NRC Finalist for LISC Award

The North River Commission, a LISC/Chicago partner agency in Albany Park and Mayfair, was honored as one of three finalists for a State Farm-LISC “Spirit of Revitalization” Award during the national LISC Urban Forum 2008 on April 29 in Indianapolis.

NRC received the award under the development category, recognizing its leadership and accomplishments in commercial revitalization during 2008. Indianapolis Mayor Gregory Ballard presented the group a plaque commemorating its selection as a finalist. NRC encourages and provides technical assistance to businesses that want to participate in Chicago’s Small Business Improvement Fund, resulting in more than $3 million invested in 20 storefront improvements in 2007 alone.

NRC Executive Director Melissa McDaniel and Liz Griffiths, executive director of the Albany Park Chamber of Commerce, attended the event and “had a wonderful time, met people from across the nation working in commercial development, and made many new friends,” Griffiths reports. “The conference was great national exposure for North River Commission and for Albany Park.”
